I'd like to introduce myself and my wife, Ryan and Teresa Kollock. We first met Head Varsity Football Coach John Shanahan back in the summer of 2018 when our son Jackson went to his summer football camp. Our son fell in love with football and we fell in love with John Shanahan and what he was doing for the high school. We asked if he had any programs going for the middle school and he did not at the time, but was eager and willing to do something with the upcoming high school students. We were asked to spearhead that program, which became Laguna Beach Youth Football.
The Laguna Beach Youth Football Program started in the spring of 2019. We began with kids 6th - 8th grade that were interested in playing high school football. We had nearly 40 kids attend the 2 free clinics we had and nearly 30 kids sign up for the Next Generation Program, which met twice a week for a 2 hour practice led by Coach Shanahan and staff. These young adults learned the offensive and defensive plays and schemes that they would be running in high school. Almost all of those kids ended up playing on the 2019 Frosh/Soph high school football team, which went undefeated. How is that for some results.
The program has now expanded to grades PreK - 8. We are proud to have partnered with USA Football and NFL Flag to offer kids a fun, confidence building, competitive, and amazing football experience. There are leagues for boys and girls of all skill levels. The NFL Flag leagues are non contact and are designed as an introduction to the sport of football. The kids will be learning the same routes, plays, offense and defense that is run at the high school level. This league is focused on the FUNdamentels of football.
We have a more competitive program called Next Generation for those kids that are much more serious about football. This is a must for those that want to play at the high school level and beyond. Next Generation is our 7v7 program for grades 5-8 that want to take their game to the next level and be involved in a more competitive environment. This program runs in the spring time after flag football. The high school football staff will be teaching kids more advanced techniques and schemes. We are also looking to roster a 5/6th and 7/8th Laguna Beach travel football team that will compete outside of town in the 4-vertical passing league in the spring.
Our mission is to keep our great athletes in town and create a feeder program for the high school. We have the most amazing coaches at the high school who support our kids and our community, and thus we need to support them. The objective is to use football as a tool both on and off the field, we can develop our kids into amazing adults. We will be working on general football skills, position specific football skills, offensive and defensive schemes, as well as football intelligence. Together we are building the foundation of family, football and life.
